Haakonsvern Helicopter Base, Bergen

The Norwegian Defence Construction Agency has established a new helicopter base at the Haakonsvern naval base in Bergen, which will house the Norwegian Air Force's 334 Squadron and six NH90 helicopters. The base houses several large hangars, a workshop, warehouse, offices and support functions, and provides employment for around 60 people.

IPOA has supplied the steel structures for the project , which form a significant part of the load-bearing system in combination with concrete. The delivery contributed to the realization of a technically advanced building with strict requirements for functionality, safety and logistics.

The building is clad with light-colored aluminum panels in various degrees of perforation, which gives the facade a varied and three-dimensional expression. Architecturally, the solution is designed to adapt to the surroundings, while meeting functional requirements from the Armed Forces.

The project was carried out by Brødrene Ulveseth as general contractor, with Norconsult as general consultant. The foundation works were carried out by Drange Maskin and included extensive blasting and mass relocation. The helicopter base was officially opened in 2016.
